Two interesting bits of news came out last night: The big one is that
Ellen DeGeneres was just named Paula Abdul’s replacement on American Idol. Crazy, right? Now, I know I write for a few different sites, but I haven’t gotten confused: this does relate back to
Medium. American Idol gets ridiculous ratings– in the 20 million viewer range (oftentimes in the higher end of that range), so a new judge is big news. While Ellen is already quite popular, not to mention a multiple-Emmy winner, her show doesn’t get 20 million viewers a day. So there’s a good chance that new people will be tuning into her show in order to find out who this Ellen lady is who will be on
Idol.
Are you still with me? Okay, good. This is the part where it relates back to Medium. As you probably guessed from the post title (because you’re super-smart and lovely, all of you) Patricia Arquette is going to be a guest on Ellen. She’s making an appearance September 25, Medium’s premiere date. Now, I’m not saying that the extra attention Ellen is receiving right now is going to make 20 million eyeballs tune into her show, which will then translate into 20 million eyeballs tuning into Medium. That, obviously, isn’t going to happen. What I am saying is that it certainly won’t hurt.
In addition to the fact that Ellen is going to be all over the news in the near future, the fact that CBS actually has the class doing, you know, publicity, is a pretty good sign. I know that the cast made talk show appearances under NBC, but they were few and far between. Hopefully Arquette’s interview with Ellen won’t be the only one the cast does to promote the premiere. If Medium is going to flourish on CBS, they need not only the loyal fans, but lots of new eyeballs as well.
