weber_dubois22Fraud. Liar. Con Artist. These are some of the names Allison DuBois has been called. She simply calls herself a "Medium," and so do many fans of the CBS drama by the same name, which is based on Allison's life. She speaks to dead people, and she doesn't care if you don't believe her.
So she says, Allison is able to speak to those who have crossed over to the great unknown and reconnect them to their living loved ones. Not only that, for years she's been working with police to solve murder cases by communicating with victims from beyond the grave to fill in missing evidence. She's been an influential part of finally closing many cold cases, and has no problem that some of the perpetrators she helps to nab end up on death row - a surprise considering that could literally come back to haunt her. And by the way, she does all that crime fighting for free.
We chatted with Allison, a recent transplant to L.A., and found that for someone with such seemingly superhuman powers, she is incredibly down to earth, greeting her almost God-like ability with an "I am what I am" shrug. She has a sarcastic sense of humor, doesn't take herself too seriously and is completely candid about what she can and can't do. She even believes that skepticism about her psychic abilities is a healthy expression of critical thinking. No matter what, one thing her doubters can't accuse her of is ambiguity. In our (slightly abridged) interview with her below, Allison gets specific about what dead people show and tell her, what really happens after we die, and her idea of God.
