Monday, March 9th 10/9c - "Apocalypse... Now?" Allison's apocalyptic dream followed by a real earthquake has her convinced the end is near. (TV-14 V)

I haven't seen a Metaphor used like that in Medium since "The Song Remains the Same", and what a brilliant use of it. The Opening sequence was undoubtedly my favorite part of the entire epiosde; Watching Joe speaking on the radio, asking if anyone [who was listening] if they'd seen his wife, reminded me more of I Am Legend than anything (I think I even saw a mention of it in the credits at the end of the episode), but the boarded windows and barricaded doors made me think there were Zombies lying in wait (wishful thinking, I know); Ah, at least Joe was toating a Crowbar when he left the house :D. I wanted to see him whack someone with it though. Sofia Vassilieva and Jake Weber were so brilliant in that entire sequence; you felt the dispair and hopelessness of their situation before Allison woke up to an Earthquake...

The crime comitted in this episode, needless to say, actually left me a little shaken (gasp! I know); I expected the murderer to have done away with the family's body in the usual manner of a killer (burying them), but to go as far melting down their bodies in a restaurant with some type of Acid... Damn that's a brutal way to be rid of several someones, especially when we find out the end result of their demise (to kidnap a girl). I couldn't blame Allison for thinking the way she was, whiping the slate clean of its current humanity. However, the dreams Allison was having, after getting over recognizing Vanessa Lengies from Stick It (and American Dreams), had me convinced she was seeing some horrible catastrophe to come into the future, then, Scanlon and company find her body and that leaves me wondering how they were going to wrap up the murder of that family.

Thankfully, Mr. Burdges was responsible for that too. And to be honest, I would've never suspected Mr. Bruges (or Burdges, whatever) as being the culpript behind anything that was going on in this episode. He plaid the Sheep so well and I was distracted with waiting for Allison to go off the deep end about the "Survival" issue for her family (like she did in "Second Opinion" with Marie and the Cancer scare), I just wrote him right off as an extra giving Allison information to fuel her paranoia. What bugs me, even though it was adressed by Allison, was how long he kept the first girl in that shelter. Three or more years doesn't sound like alot of time to fool someone that the world had really ended, unless he had some serious drugs of the disorienting kind on his side to "win" her over.

Joe and Allison's moment in the bedroom was great; I loved how Joe said "...Mark this as a Historal Moment, because you have officially left the planet" (or something in that wording) to Allison when she considered the ideal of buying a gun to protect their family, and how he tried to get her to see the folly behind that idea. Bridgette and Marie playing with the Flashlights and eating the Survival Provisions reminded me alot of my younger days. I was always playing with the Flashlights when my parents told me not to (we never had any with working batteries when the power actually went out). I got a good laugh at Marie's chocolate covered face.

Finally, Did anyone see Joe's office? There must've been three or more people chattering behind him; He must've put out one compelling "Help Wanted" ad, or was working from his Boss' building this time instead of his Warehouse Office. Also, it was good to see some more of Ariel in this episode. The boy really had me fooled that he was some struggling student with a crush on her. I did not expect her to end up roped into a "cheating" scheme by that kid. That was just a rotten thing for him to do (but on Ariel's side, it was a nice switch up from the usual "well meaning" boys she has relations with at School). I half-expected Ariel to tell on him, even if it was at her expense.

"That was damn profound."
"Thank You, would you like another one? A Stitch In Time saves nine. ...Its better to give than to recieve..."
"I dunno about that one."
"Red sky morning. Sailor's Warning...Um, Red Sky at night---"
"Alright, I'm over it...!"
"--Sailor's Delight..."

...Such a nice way to end an episode. Fluffiness is paramount.

Overall, Excellent Episode (I just wanted more Apocalypse!Joe and Ariel), I can't wait the two week return: Agent Cooper's Ghost is back!

BONUS: Creating Destruction: - an "Apocalypse... Now?" Featurette featuring Jake Weber.

Except, of course, for the one that was on drugs...

Trivia: I happened to notice that Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) was the producer of this ep. Is he the producer of the show? I never noticed the credits before.

If I recall correctly (& I may not), Arizona is one part of the US that's not known to have earthquakes.
