Monday, June 1st 10/9c - "Bring Me The Head Of Oswaldo Castillo" On the season series finale on NBC, Allison dreams of a future where an unfamiliar man is comforting her after the loss of her entire family. (TV-14 V)
...Now on your feet soldier..." --- Kyle Reese
...And this is how NBC would've left us: With A "series finale" and a "To be Continued" if CBS hadn't picked up the series they've produced. I would've been momentarily trumatized for life like I was with Journeyman, with nothing but speculation and "save our show" campgains to monitor on blogs or wordpress sites. Their evil truly knows no bounds (Proceeds to sharpen her knife).
[Clears Throat]: Anyways, this was an excellent episode. I honestly could find nothing to complain about except the fact that there was too little Marie, Bridgette, and Ariel, ...Joe... ...and would it be extremely morbid to say that I at least wanted to see how Joe and the girls died, to further connect with the desperation that motivated Allison to save her family from an untimely demise, before finding out Castillo likes chop people up and put them in tiny boxes, plus blow them up in their cars Lethal Weapon style?(Okay, so Victoria Lynn Riggs was run off the road, but still, death by car still counts.) Yeah, too morbid? Okay, I'll just keep that to myself then :P.
Funnily enough if it weren't for the abysmal The Haunting of Molly Heartly movie, I probably wouldn't have known that angioma's could be or were [considered] benign tumors, because aside from where the Tumor was affecting poor Allison (the brain stem), that's the only thing I could think of that could've been already present inside her head to cause such a terrible complication. That aside, I can say that this episode really stirred some fear of things to come as it progressed in the storyline. The set up was so well thought out, that I feared that this dream of her could actually happen.
After getting over the urge to bop Allison for snapping at Marie, then Joe, I giggled at the rapport between her and Lee, plus her donation of baby clothes to Scanlon (and by extension, Lynn). Lynn doesn't have to worry about shopping for her new baby anytime soon if she ends up adoring all the clothing.
For some odd reason, I thought the poor man Castillo was torturing was the man that Allison was somehow "fated" to meet in the future, so I sighed and thought "well, don't have to worry about him."
Obviously, I wasn't paying attention to the faces, because as soon as Manuel mentioned that the Federal Agent's wife had been killed, I frowned and then facepalmed. Arg, the future had not changed and there was still a chance that the Dubois family would die (where's John Connor when you need him?). Sufficed to say, I did not like the friendliness that Agent dude was showing towards Allison. Even before the end of the episode, I thought he was laying it on thick (Natasha Bedingfield playing in the background didn't help either). That aside, for once, I found myself really enjoying the fight between Joe and Allison. Lately, I thouht they've been a bit off kilter compared to the previous season fights, but this was one was really good, particularly the "I want you to get your ass out of the bed and act you give a damn" part (ROFL). Joe's too logical for his own good sometimes, I love him for it :D.
The future dreams of a powerless Allison looking for justice (in the semi-legal way) for her slaughtered family were like a seperate episode altogether with the way they were shot. It was extremely entertaining, but the only thing that confused me was Allison wearing the wig; Are we supposed to be assume that she's still taking radiation treatments for the remainder of her tumor (hence the wig), or is the hair unable to grow back after getting part your head cracked open? Anyhow, I was rather surprised by the turns of events which revealed that the "oh so helpful" federal agent, was a Double Agent, working with Oswaldo Castillo and allowed his wife to be killed. Him = Jerkward. I took much pleasure in Future!Allison ending all their lives with her revolver, aided by a gas leak. That'll teach them to ruin her idyllic life and think they can get away with it :D.
The kicker, however, was the Allison's proclaimation of love to her husband and the final minutes of the episode, where the doctor tells Joe that Allison suffered a stroke and had fallen into a Comatose state. Coupled with that damn season montage (*wipes tears away*), and Bedingfield's song (whatever its called), which finally had some impact now that it was used in correct manner, and Joe's look of absolute dismay and stunned silence, it was official: My Brain was really numb. I'll be up all night/morning wondering how Allison's gonna get out of this mess in Season Six.
Poor Joe.
Poor kids.
Overall, a Excellent Episode and a great Finale.
'Till the Fall and greener pastures.
EDIT: I just found out the Natasha Bedingfield song is called "Soulmate" Mystery solved.

Date: 2009-06-02 05:07 am (UTC)But tonight I was too upset. I was just... just blown away. I sat there agonizing with Allison and crew. Could it be fall NOW? Please?
The montage at the end put me over. Usually I try to do other things while I watch TV, either blog/email stuff or crosswords, but tonight I dropped the book and I was absolutely transfixed. It totally reaffirmed all of the reasons why I watch TV - and why I LOVE THIS SHOW.
And I cannot say this enough - thank you, THANK YOU, CBS!

Date: 2009-06-02 05:18 am (UTC)^Oh, man, same here. I never thought I'd want to skip over Summer and go straight into Fall, and suffer the cold all over the again, just to see what happens next.

Date: 2009-06-02 06:28 am (UTC)Years later my faith has been renewed, not only in shows like "house" and "bones" but also in a show I loved from the beginning.
I started watching for the supernatural aspect, but damn am I glad I stayed... for everything else. It sucks that NBC can't realize what a gem they have, but it makes me glad that CBS is taking a chance on our show. It's nice to know they won't be disappointed.
And yes, even though my summer is going to be one of the best, I will sure be glad for premiere week.

Date: 2009-06-02 01:00 pm (UTC)THIS. That was all I could think of during the closing moments. I was like, wow. They were gonna leave us hanging. BASTARDS.
I thought this episode had much more gravitas than usual, and it really cut me to the core. Particularly Allison's dream!grief, and the murder of that police officer. I couldn't stop thinking about how horrible it was. Especially since it seemed obvious that the poor man probably wasn't 100% dead while he was being cut up. *shudder* And his poor family! I admit it, I teared up.
At the end I was so afraid it was going to be another one of those times Devalos wasn't willing to believe Allison because (a) she was obviously very sick, and he's given less concrete reasons not to believe her dreams before; and (b) the suspect was an FBI agent whom Devalos already trusted. But thank GOODNESS they didn't go that route, because that would have been just too much to bear. By then I knew it would end with Allison in limbo. The question was whether the case would be solved first. The very, very important case that needed to be solved or else the Dubois family would probably be massacred. o.O Like I said, gravitas.
Anyway I am at least grateful Castillo was caught and the Duboises saved. Now of course we have to worry about Allison. I've no doubt she'll wake up eventually. But I have a feeling her dreams will be gone. :/ I have many quibbles with that, the main one being that the entire premise of the show is then rendered moot (though I'm sure she gets it back eventually, or else seriously, the show is pointless). Also, though, it bothers me that it seems we are meant to believe her dreams stem from the fact that she has a brain tumor. Allison's dreams are supposed to be a gift, and one she's had since she was little, as do her daughters. It doesn't work that way. I want to see how they explain Allison losing her 'sight' if they decide to go that route. Maybe they'll go with something like 'the tumor messed with suchandsuch receptor blahblahblah.' It still bothers me though. I think Allison's gift needs to be the constant. Let other things around her change, but not that.
lol apparently I cared a lot more than I thought I did about this episode. ^_^

Date: 2009-06-02 06:34 pm (UTC)Same here and I think I was rubbing my wrists a good two minutes after Allison had that vision of him being Tortured. The blood and his screaming was enough to make me cringe.
I too was worried Devalos wouldn't listen to Allison either because she was breaking down right then and there after she had the vision of where Castillo was. Thank Goodness he went in the other direction.

THIS! I had a problem with that as well. How could a gift that is obviously, not in the physical sense, something that's attatched to the brain, be taken from you when its given to you by a "Higher Power" and therefore, not corporeal? I mean, eventually I chalked up her lack of vision/dreaming in the future to The Powers That Be wanting to give her time to recuperate from her situation, but still, to go as far as implying that getting the surgery that would rid her of the tumor, would also rid her of as visions/dreams as well, is kinda far-fetched. At least in terms of the show. Anyway, I hope they don't alter her gift in any way (radical or minor), or even take it from her. That would really be hurting one of the many crucial elements of the show.

Both PA and JW were excellent. Had that been the last episode, I don't think I would have never let myself get invested in a show again.. I would have fumed!
